We were deeply saddened when we learned that former Metro Rotarian Jim Lawrence had passed away in March 2020 from a brain tumor. Jim was a charter member of our Grand Prairie Metro Rotary Club and was instrumental in starting the Pumpkin Run along with Clyde DeLoach. Together, Jim, Clyde and Carolyn Wicker served and made sure the Pumpkin Run continued for many years. Jim continued to be a sponsor of the run until his death. Jim’s family knew how important the Pumpkin Run was to him. The family is now having his memorial service and has specifically asked that our Rotary club be notified for those that would like to attend. For those that would like to attend, information is below. For those Rotarians that did not know Jim, he was a perfect example of “Service Above Self.”
Memorial Day Lunch - Monday, May 30, 2022. We will cook and serve our annual lunch to our veterans immediately following the City's program at the Veterans Center from 9-noon. Please sign up if you can attend. If you ordered a Patriotic shirt, Judy will bring them to our next meeting on 5/24.
Camp RYLA Cook Day - Tuesday, May 31, 2022. We need to arrive at 3pm (kids eat at 6pm). We will need to bring our grill as the camp no longer has one.
District Roundtable - Saturday, June 18, 2022. Our club is hosting the June District Roundtable! This is our opportunity to promote our club and what we do to other clubs in our district. We will definitely put in a SHAMELESS plug for Pumpkin Run. We are asked to provide a light breakfast for 35-40 Rotarians. We need to arrive by 8:30am to set up and we are to clean up afterwards. Please let Shebra know if you can attend. More info in the calendar.
Our next Adopt-a-Street project is set for Saturday, June 11 @ 8am. Please sign up with Chuck if you can attend. Family and friends are welcome! We need at least 16 volunteers to do the job effectively. More hands make light work!
Our Awards Program/Officer Installation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 28 @ 6pm in the Black Box Theater @ The Uptown, 120 E Main St, Grand Prairie 75050. The theme will be "Old Hollywood." The cost will be shared once the menu is confirmed. Please plan to attend!
